QiblaOne Privacy Policy

QiblaOne is a guidance app for new Muslims on Android and iPhone. This policy explains what data the app uses, why, and with whom it is shared. It applies to both the Google Play and Apple App Store versions.
We do not create user accounts and we do not sell your personal information.
1. Who is responsible
The developer of QiblaOne (contact: robinsmiet@gmail.com) is the data controller for personal data processed through the app.
2. Data we use
We collect and use only what is needed to run the app:
- Location (precise, when you allow it) — to calculate prayer times, Qibla direction, show your approximate place name, and help you find nearby mosques. Location is requested only while you use the app (not in the background). If you refuse, those features will not work accurately.
- Device motion / compass (iOS) — to keep the Qibla compass aligned. This stays on the device.
- Advertising identifiers — Google AdMob may use your advertising ID (Google Advertising ID on Android; Identifier for Advertisers / IDFA on iOS) to show ads and measure them. On iPhone we ask for tracking permission first (App Tracking Transparency). If you decline, you can still use the app; ads may be less personalized.
- Text you type — if you use Ask AI or First 30 Days coaching, the question or reflection you enter is sent to Google Gemini so the app can generate a reply. Do not type information you do not want processed (for example full name, address, or phone number).
- On-device preferences — prayer streak, marked prayers, journey progress, review prompts, and ad-frequency limits are stored locally on your phone. They are not uploaded to a QiblaOne account (we do not have accounts).
3. How data is shared (third parties)
We share data with service providers only to operate the features above:

Their own privacy policies also apply, including Google Privacy Policy and Apple Privacy Policy.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your AI questions to build a public profile. We do not share your location with advertisers for our own marketing.
4. Legal basis (EEA / UK)
Where GDPR applies, we process data on these bases:
- Your consent — location permission; iOS tracking permission; using Ask AI / coaching (you choose to send the text).
- Legitimate interests — showing ads so the app can stay free, storing local preferences, security and abuse limits on AI use.
- Contract / service delivery — providing prayer times and Qibla when you use those features.
You may withdraw consent at any time in the device settings. That does not affect processing already done.
5. Retention
- Location is used in the moment to fetch times and direction. We do not run a QiblaOne user database of your location history.
- AI prompts are sent to Google to generate a reply. We do not keep a separate QiblaOne copy of your questions on our own servers.
- Local preferences stay on your device until you clear app data or uninstall.
- Advertising data is handled by Google AdMob under Google’s retention rules.
6. Security
Network requests use HTTPS. We do not operate login or payment inside the app. No method of transmission is 100% secure, but we limit what we collect.
7. Children
QiblaOne is not directed at children under 13. Do not use the app if you are under the age required in your country for this type of service (including ads and AI features).
8. Your choices
Location
- Android: Settings → Apps → QiblaOne → Permissions → Location.
- iPhone: Settings → QiblaOne → Location.
Ads / tracking
- Android: Settings → Google → Ads (or Privacy / ads settings), and you can reset or opt out of ad personalization.
- iPhone: when asked, choose not to allow tracking; later: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking, and Settings → QiblaOne.
AI features
Do not use Ask AI or 30-day coaching if you do not want your text sent to Gemini.
Local data
Uninstalling QiblaOne removes local preferences from that device.
9. Your rights and data deletion
Depending on your country (including GDPR in the EU), you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, or a copy of personal data we hold, and you may lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Because QiblaOne has no user accounts, most data lives only on your device (uninstall to remove it) or with the third parties listed above.
To request deletion of any related data we may hold, email robinsmiet@gmail.com with subject “QiblaOne data deletion” and tell us whether you use Android, iOS, or both. We will respond as soon as reasonably possible, and within the time required by law.
10. International transfers
Some providers (including Google) may process data in the United States or other countries. Those providers are responsible for their own transfer safeguards.
11. Changes
We may update this policy when the app or the law changes. The “Last updated” date at the top will change. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
